My husband and I are finally powerwashing our older home to take off the years of grime (bought it dirty 3 years ago!) and now as we take off the shutters realize we have a TON of bats living back there. (Thats what all the black stuff is coming out behind the shutters! duh!) my question is now that we are getting them all cleaned out.. how do I stop them from moving back in??? any insight would be much appreciated!

  1. I also had this problem. When bats leave at dusk to feed, they exit by dropping downward. When they return in the dawn they have to crawl upward to their home. So  with this in mind you will have to find a way to block their entrance.Perhaps with wire.Or some sort of netting. This will only be temporary. Also , bats return to the place that they were born to raise their off spring. So if you can have them removed by a pro.before they have young ones chances are they will not return.Or you can always invest in a bat home and place it further from your dwelling.

  2. i would find a different style shutter that would keep the nasty bats out

  3. They create a mess, but also eat millions of pests.

    That rhymed.

You will have to permanently remove their home to effectively rid them from returning.

If you can tolerate them, they are really fascinating creatures that do far more good than harm.I know.My wife feels the same way.

  4. Be careful what you do.  In some areas bats are a protected species.  A pro would be the best to go to for advice.

If it were me, I would leave them alone. Yes, they're messy, but boy ,can they EAT!!!
