Battered Simon Jones hoping for international return
England fast bowler http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Simon-Jones-c2531 hopes that he will return to One-day cricket after his illustrious Test career was halted by a series of injuries.
“I don’t think I would ever hang my International boots up, not until I’m 40-odd,” Jones stated.
Jones is the long forgotten unsung hero of his country’s glorious Ashes 2005 triumph over a relatively dominant http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, but he refuses to believe that his days in an England shirt are numbered, let alone over.
“You never stop believing,” Jones added accepting the fact that his knees might not be able to undergo the rigorous test of five-day cricket, but said he could handle One-day cricket easily.
The right-arm medium-fast bowler used reverse swing to devastating effect and steered England to a national record of eight consecutive Test wins in 2004. He also helped his side in winning the 2005 Ashes series which became his last appearance for England.
After that, everything went downhill. Initially, he suffered from an ankle injury but was soon nursing a grievous career-threatening knee injury that required multiple operations. He then developed an ankle problem and was soon set to become a tale of sporting tragedy.
His first Ashes experience in 2002-03 was also abruptly ended on the opening day of the series in Brisbane when he ruptured a ligament on his right knee.
But the Welshman believes that he needs to keep looking ahead rather than thinking about what went wrong in the past.
“You have to listen to your body but I won’t stop trying to be the best that I can be,” Jones conceded saying that he has promised himself to give his body the “best chance” to take up a challenge.
He recently returned home from a successful domestic Twenty20 tournament in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hampshire-c789. He claimed 12 wickets including an impressive spell of 4/10 in four overs against Barbados.
“You don’t lose pace, it’s just whether you can sustain it long enough,” Jones said.
It remains to be seen whether England pick Jones for limited-over cricket or not, but he certainly has the potential to win them matches single-handedly.
