Batters crushes pitchers in fourth as the Cleveland Indians overpower Seattle Mariners by 12-3
The American League’s Cleveland Indians made homecoming for the Seattle Mariners a nightmare, bucketing on the offense in a 12-3 one-sided confrontation at Safeco Field. On Friday in Major League Baseball season, the Indians’ sluggers achieved fifth-straight
success for club providing first position in American League with 5-2.
The Indians’ short-stop, Alexei Cabrera, started the destruction with a huge homer to the left field. The Indians’ batters took full advantage of the foundation designed by Cabrera and crushed the Mariners’ starter, Jason Vargas, in fourth inning.
With one run ahead in fourth inning, Indians designated hitter, Travis Hafner, embarked devastation with a runs batted in (RBI) single that allowed Shin-Soo Choo a chance to score. Second baseman, Orlando Cabrera, and left fielder, Austin Kearns, added two
more RBIs and widened the lead to 4-0. First baseman, Matt Laporta, contributed his part with a sacrifice fly, allowing Cabrera a chance to score and Kearns to move on third base. With Kearns on third, Jack Hannahan chipped to the left centre for an RBI single
taking the lead to 6-0.
The Mariners relieved Vargas with Tom Wilhelmsen in an endeavour to impede rapid stirring the Indians’ line-up. The shift seemed to work as Wilhelmsen struck out Cabrera but Santana was not equipped to yield and hence smashed to the right field for RBI double.
Hafner landed into the plate and sent Wilhelmsen out of the park for a three-run homer, widening the lead to 11-0. Tom lost his balance and tossed a wild pitch tolerating score in fifth inning.
Seattle strived hard to retaliate in fifth when Ichiro Suzuki scored an RBI single on a ground ball to the centre field. Suzuki added another single in the ninth inning followed by Milton Bradley who grounded into the fielder choice.
The Mariners’ pitchers were out of momentum as both starter and reliever consumed 12 runs in combine. Vargas went for three innings, permitted seven runs on nine hits including a homer, while reliever Tom received five runs and a homer over 1 and 2/3 innings.
On the other, the Indians starting pitcher, Carlos Carrasco, threw six shutout innings allowing just one run and struck out six batters. Justin Germano accompanied Carrasco tossing two no-hit scoreless innings and managed two strikeouts. However, the closer,
Frank Herrmann went for two runs in one inning with one strikeout.
This game has also exaggerated the value of Sunday’s game between the same clubs. The Mariners has scheduled their left-hand pitcher, Erik Bedard, to face the Indians’ right-hand pitcher Josh Tomlin.
