Batters praise Gio Gonzalez as Oakland Athletics beat Texas Rangers 7-2 – MLB Update
The Oakland Athletics defeated the Texas Rangers 7-2 as the two teams squared off for the third time on Sunday in their four-game series at the Overstock.com Coliseum.
Both teams were square, following the last two games and there was going to be a leader decided in the third outing. The hosts brought on Gio Gonzalez to pitch to the Texans. Fortunately for the team, the pitcher succeeded in reeling in the win.
Gonzalez took help from pitching coach, Ron Romanick, and veteran pitcher Dallas Braden, before going out to pitch to one of the most dominating teams in the American League. Much to his surprise, his club hitters managed to gain the lead after which the
Rangers succumbed to his pitches.
The pitcher pounced at the strike zone, earning just five hits, two runs and seven strike-outs from six innings. The batters from both teams were out to praise the player who is now 3-2 for the season. His team-mate, Andy LaRoche, was content with Gonzalez’s
performance.
"It was a good day all around for us," LaRoche said. "Obviously Gio went out there and did a phenomenal job like he has most of the season. It was great to get some run support and get on them early. Instead of pitching from behind, we were pitching with
the lead the whole game. That's great for our pitchers. It takes a lot of pressure off them. It's a big win for us after coming off a very lopsided loss yesterday."
On the other hand, the Texans were also insightful on the ball thrower’s ability.
"He's always got good stuff," Rangers centre fielder David Murphy said. "From the left side, he's tough crossing with his fastball."
The out-fielder further praised the pitcher saying that he has velocity and left-handers have trouble dealing with his curve-balls. Hitters may know what is being pitched to them but the pitcher is tough and he can beat a good team. Murphy concluded that
it is hard to come back with a deficit against a pitcher like Gonzalez.
