Battery Reconditioning ?

Any one know how I can recondition my 14.4 volt power tool battery

I charge it up one day next day its lost it's charge

you cant,best buy a new one and chuck the old one,its no good anymore.

time to recycle .......the metals inside need chemical refining you can't do it at home,buy a new one..........tom

A power tool battery can only be recharged about 1000 times before it needs replacing with a new one

Most power tool batteries are nickel cadmium,  after a while they form little metal "wiskers" internally that allow the batery to discharge internally.  there is a simple procedure to get rid of these wiskers and recondition the battery.  it works about 95% of the time (since some times there are just too many wiskers, or there is a different problem).

this has a potential to be dangerous, however, i have never had any problems, and i have done it about 50 times (i have a lot of tools).

Take apart the battery pack for the tool so that the individual cells are exposed.  if any are ruptured or corroded, then either replace the bad cell with a new one, or throw out the whole pack.

one they are exposed, you will need to be able to get a wire to each end of each individual cell,  they don't need to be disconnected from each other, but you need a good connection to the ends of each one.

you'll need a power source with at least 1 amp at about 12 volts.  can go higher, but i found that a good 12v 1a plugin power supply works well, or i have used a car battery,  but that's a lot of juice and just asking for problems.

run the ositive wire of the supply to the positive end of one of the cells, and then with the supply turned on, touch the negative wire to the negative end, for only 3 seconds.  don't go longer than 3 seconds.

repeat for all the cells in the pack.  if the pack is really bad, like it looses it's charge in about an hour, then hit each cell twice,  but give them 5 minutes between jolts.

reassemble the pack, and throw it on a charger.

Once batteries have gone they've gone for good and a new one is needed but then again it could be your charger.
