Battery charging. I noticed that when you put the walkie talkies on charge there is no indicator

I noticed that when you put the walkie talkies on charge there is no indicator that advises you that it is being charged or even an indicator to show you the sataus of the battery- unless i am wrong please can you advise how to identify charging /and or staus indicator.

as i have found the batteries to die out within .5hrs of use
