Question:

Battery for Specific Motor?

I am thinking about creating an electric go kart and wanna to see how much one might cost. I found this motor- http://www.enigmaindustries.com/PMG_132/PMG_132.htm

It seems good and I want to run it at 72v and 400 amps. That would give me 36 hp and 56 ft. lb. of torque. I have yet to find a group of batteries that could run this motor for even 15 minutes. If anybody has any thought pleas post.

  1. 36 HP is a bit much for a go kart.

my GEM car does just fine on a 5 HP with 6 deep cycle lead acid gel batts for 72 volt nominal.

  2. This motor is only rated to 200 amps at 72v.

Anyway, one frequently has to run parallel SLA packs to get enough current for vehicles like this.

Try Optima yellow tops, available at Sam's.
