I have a 2000 Mazda Protege. The "Check Engine" light has always been on, which I think is the result of code # P0140 (Generic 02 Sensor) whatever that is. Erasing the code doesn't make the light go away but my mechanic said it's not a huge deal.

A while ago, the alternator went so my mechanic put in a rebuilt one for a couple hundred bucks. It's been running okay but a few days ago the Battery light came on my dash and wouldn't go off. I drove it home and used an ODB II scanner to test it again, but couldn't find any other trouble codes. I erased all codes and started it up but the battery light is still on. Can't figure out why. Could it be a S****y alternator?

Here's the readout from the scanner:

Trouble Codes: 01

Fault Codes: 01

Pend Codes: 00

P0140: Generic 02 Sensor CKT No Activity (Bank 1 Sensor 2)
