Question:

Battery operated feeder?

Does anyone know a store (not online) that sells battery operated feeders for fish? I need to get two, and going through online will take too long. Also, I don't want to spend too much. Twenty bucks would definitely be my limit! Thanks!

  1. Walmart does. At least mine does. Its more like 12 or 14 bucks though. Hope I helped!!

  2. Since the filter might not be running, I would probably just feed them right before you leave. As you said, the feeder cubes/tablets are very messy, and if the power *does* go out - the battery feeder will keep dumping food into non-circulating water. It might be okay if you can severely limit the amount of food that comes out ~ your fish will only need a little bit of food a day. I feed mine frozen food and algae wafers just once a week...

Like everyone else said, you can find the battery operated feeders at Petsmart, Walmart, and Petco as well...and they should be within your price range. Good luck with the evacuation...

  3. Just read your updates- something else you will want to invest in- a battery backup for your airstone incase you do lose power.

What are the chances you could take the fish with you when you evacuate?  I transported my 2 large fancy goldfish 400 miles by car a few weeks ago- in a 10 gallon rubbermaid tote.  It can be done.  Take the fish, filter, airstone, compressor, and one ornament.  Feed VERY sparingly for the duration.

    Good luck with the evac!

I got my battery operated feeders at Pet-Smart for about $16/piece.  I'm not sure you're going to be able to find one for less then that.

How long are you going to be gone?  If its less then a week-10 days you might check out dissolving feeders.  They cost much less.
