I've been to many websites, but there are many 'big words' and it's all too confusing. Can someone give me a quick summary?

  1. On October 10, 732 AD, Christian forces under the leadership of Charles Martel defeated a Muslim army waging a war of aggression and conquest.

Charles Martel held the post of Mayor of the Palace in the Austrasian empire which included most of modern day France, belgium and the Netherlands along with parts of Germany.

The battle is taken as a turning point in the continuing invasion of Christian lands that had been conducted by the Muslims since the invention of the Muslim religion in Arabia.

Muslims had already overrun and enslaved or forcibly converted the Christians of the Middle East, Anatolia, Egypt, North Africa and Spain, stealing Christian lands and incorporating them into various newly created Muslim kingdoms. At Tours their march of conquest was handed a major defeat and the Muslim advance halted, for the most part, in western Europe.

The Muslim wars of conquest would continue in the East with the enslavement of most of the Near East and India and Muslim aggression that would reach the gates of Vienna before finally being turned back in 1683.
