EA and DICE make a mockery out of Activision’s DLC plan for their Call of Duty game. Set to release three expansions starting from June.
Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 are the two names that come into mind when one thinks of the modern military first-person shooter genre. The rivalry between them has been one of the talking points amongst the members of the gaming community.
However, the publishers of both games, namely Electronic Arts and Activision, having been taking verbal swipes at each other from time to time. Activision snidely commented that they were focused on making a game not building an engine, which was aimed at how EA was promoting their FrostBite 2 engine.
Battlefield on the other hand had a very cheeky tagline for its game which read, ‘go above and beyond the call’.
It was great for gamers and it seems that hostilities have not yet settled down between the two rivals as EA have taken another swing at their opponents.
DICE released a statement on its blog which read, “Instead of delivering piecemeal map packs, we’re giving players a completely new experience with every themed expansion pack to keep action fresh.”
This is the point where readers go ‘oh no he didn’t’. Emphasis should be given to the term ‘piecemeal map packs’ which is a reference to how Activision are releasing one map at a time in terms of DLC, a move that has not gone down well with Modern Warfare 3 fans either.
The statement went on to highlight how DICE were working to please the fans more than anything, “Our expansions are designed to excite our large and active fan base while attracting new recruits with gameplay that is dynamic and unpredictable every time.”
The expansions outlined were the Close Quarters, which is infantry only multiplayer action, Armored Kill, which swaps soldiers for vehicles and End Game, which at this point remains shrouded in mystery.
All in all DICE have made a bold promise and it remains to be seen whether or not the developer can live up to its claims or not.
