After 3 years of hype, teasers, leaked pictures, and gameplay videos fans of the Battlefield series can finally get their hands on the new Battlefield 3 game for PC. Releasing today at 12am EST in the United States, EA games will look to take the first mover
advantage over its arch rival Activision and its Call of Duty Series which is geared for launch on November 8th 2011.
With the release of Battlefield 3 close and Modern Warfare 3 also competing in the same market segment the rivalry has extended to fans of both franchises with Youtube comments sections and gaming forums abuzz with both sets of fans claiming their game will
be better than the other. The hype and patient waiting has finally ended and fans of battlefield across the United States are taking days off from work or ignoring their girlfriends for a few days to enjoy and experience what is expected to be one of the best
online games released in 2011.
The Battlefield series is known for its intense multiplayer battles over large expansive surroundings will continue with this tradition while allowing players to work as a team using combined arms tactics allowing players to utilize vehicles ranging from
tanks, APCs to Attack helicopters and jet fighters. This set in a map allowing for 64 players creates an intense multiplayer experience with the visual effects created by the new Frostbite 2 engine adding a new dimension to the game with players able to interact
in all manner with their environment, destroying unlimited buildings, shooting through walls etc which creates an experience as close to real war a player can get while safe at home.
Although the series is known for its multiplayer experience, Battlefield 3 also includes a Single player campaign mode set along the Iran-Iraq border with the US Marine Corps fighting against the People’s Liberation and Resistance. The campaign storyline
however is trite and looks as though ideas from standard military fiction have been jumbled up and a storyline created from it while the overall campaign lacks some of the real epic moments that are the hallmarks of the multiplayer campaign. The campaign follows
the story of Staff Sergeant Blackburn on a mission to rescue a missing US Army squad which went missing while inspecting a possible WMD site.
Overall initial reviews for the game are highly positive with a Meta critic rating of 93 out of a possible 100 and IGN giving the game an impressive 9/10 while commenting that “Regardless of the narrative missteps or the occasional glitches, Battlefield
3 offers an unforgettable, world-class multiplayer suite that's sure to excite shooter fans, whether they fired their first bullet in Battlefield 1942 or have just now heeded Battlefield's call of duty.”
The wait is finally over its time to gear up and get gaming.
