Battlefield 3 offers more than Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 according to DICE
In the latest war of words between two of gaming’s fiercest rivals, Electronic Arts’ Battlefield 3 and Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, the development studio behind Battlefield 3, DICE, have suggested that their title has more to offer gamers
than what the competition is bringing to the table.
The exchange of hostilities is nothing new between the two competing games with each game’s publishers and developers going at their rivals almost from day one. Activision were not allowed to enter Electronic Arts’ booth at the Electronic Entertainment Expo
where Battlefield 3 was being shown.
Later on, Activision would respond by claiming that they were making a game and not delivering an engine, something which was aimed at DICE’s pride at the Frostbite engine which will power Battlefield 3.
A number of exchanges took place later on with Activision flaunting how it was the only first-person-shooter on consoles which ran at a smooth 60-frames-per-second. A statement intentionally made to pressurize its competition.
Battlefield 3 responded with various statements of their own and the saga has been on-going with neither side able to get that decisive blow.
Yet, Patrick Liu, Battlefield 3’s producer, has stated that although the games may be in the same category, a modern military shooter, they each have their own distinct identity.
“They’re (Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3) both military shooters, but in terms of flavour and style they’re different.” Liu explained.
He continued by advertising his own studio’s game as being more of a complete package when he said, “But we offer so much more than they do, I think; but that’s me.”
The attempt to be diplomatic near the end seemed a formality as he said what he needed to say before the “I think”.
The statement itself was a very bold one and would be questioned immediately by the masses of first person shooter fans, however, Liu seemed have anticipated this and explained exactly what he meant.
Elaborating on his earlier statement, he stated, “The launch of the fame is really just a start, and then we plan to support the game as long as it’s needed with new content, patches, balancing and tweaking the game. We have a team dedicated just for that.”
It seems Battlefield 3 is a long term project for the developers who wish to continue to improve and enhance the experience for those who purchase the game.
However, the online multiplayer beta has been disappointing thus far, which resulted in DICE explaining that the code for the beta was an old, slightly out-of-date one, with the full retail copy delivering a much better experience.
Gamers can decide for themselves which game provides the better experience when both Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare hit shelves this holiday season.
