Battlefield 3 retail version will be better than the beta – DICE
Battlefield 3 beta has impressed some gamers and disappointed few others, yet both sets of first person shooter fans have something to look forward to as DICE, the game’s developer, have stated that the final retail copy of the game will be much better technically
than the current beta version.
Fans were slightly disappointed with the overall look and feel of the beta, as the visuals were not up to par and the game felt unfinished. According to DICE, it was due to the fact that beta was built on an ‘early code’ of the game, with the final version
receiving much more polish.
Karl Magnus Troedsson, DICE’s General Manager, explained, “The Battlefield 3 Open Beta is based on software that is more than one month old. Just like normal procedure when releasing a game, the Open Beta has had long lead times due to testing, certification
and setting up. This means that the code you are now playing is actually quite early and not representative of the final game.”
So, gamers can breathe a short sigh of relief, yet at the same time, how the game will be improved is still under question. The General Manager also explained that the reason for the ‘technical shortcomings’ were down to the fact that they wished to have
as many people testing the game as they could, so that they could incorporate as much feedback as possible into the final game.
He added, “We had to do this in order to have as many people testing as possible, in order to ensure a top quality experience when the game is released.”
In fact, DICE have stated that player feedback will be a huge factor which will shape the final version of the game. It seems that developers wish to iron out all multiplayer kinks in the game before it goes on sale where it will compete with ‘Call of Duty:
Modern Warfare 3’.
What happens between now and Battlefield 3’s release date will be crucial as DICE know they have to step up their game if they wish to claim the top first person shooter prize.
