Battlefield 3 sales figures are in and EA are pretty rich ahead of the Christmas period
The sales figures for Electronic Arts latest first-person shooter are in and they make for some pretty reading for all those involved with the company and the game.
According to Eric Brown, the Chief Financial Officer at Electronic Arts, the game has sold in excess of 8-million units since its release. The figure is impressive as the game has been out just over a month as it was released on the 25th of September.
A majority of those sales were made on the first day of release of Battlefield 3 as over 5-million copies of the modern military first-person shooter managed to be exchanged for that oh so important piece of paper the world calls money.
Keeping things in line with getting into minute details, a majority of those day one sales also happened to be from pre-orders as over 3-million units were pre-ordered and handed over to customers on the first day.
So that means that since its opening week, the game has managed to sell around 3-milllion copies in the space of a month, which is fairly impressive to say the least.
However, just how much ‘honey’ did EA manage to make with the sales of the game so far? It is time for the experts at Bettor.com to get out their calculators and find out a rough approximate for you the reader.
So if one was to take the average price of a copy of Battlefield 3 ($60) and multiply it with the number of units sold (8-million) it would leave the final sales figure standing at an enormous $958-brazilion! That was a joke.
The approximate lies in the $480-million region mark though and it is still fairly impressive as long as one does not compare it to the $775-milllion that Activision managed to rake in on the release day of their first-person shooter Call of Duty: Modern
Warfare 3.
Battlefield 3 rolled its armoured backside into the sales charts in the United Kingdom and was immediately crown the best selling game in its opening week. Another record the game holds is that it is its publisher, EA’s, fastest selling game in history.
At the same time the sales figures come when the game is embroiled in a bit of controversy as well as Iran have followed the example of Germany and Australia and decided to ban certain games from being traded in the region.
Sadly for EA, the game’s depiction of the United States Army’s invasion of Iran was not taken too well by the regulatory authority in the country.
All that aside though, Battlefield 3 is a success for EA as it justifies its $50-million advertising budget by brining it around 9 times that amount.
