Battlefield 4 and Saints Row 4 ‘hinted at’, no surprises there
Publishers for the Battlefield and Saints Row series have dropped early hints towards the fourth parts of both franchises.
Starting things off with modern military shooters and Electronic Arts’ take on the genre. Developed by DICE, Battlefield 3 hit shelves late last month and it has gone on to become the fastest selling game the studio has ever released.
So the only thing slightly surprising about Frank Gibeau’s, the President of EA, “there will be a Battlefield 4,” statement is the fact that he confirmed it so early. While it may be true, that after reports of the game’s astronomical sales were released
a fourth game would be a no-brainer, very few expected direct confirmation so early on.
However, it is to be expected, with developer and publishing studios opting towards an annual model for their release schedules. Activision have been releasing a Call of Duty game every year for the past few years, albeit Treyarch and Infinity Ward swap
developer duties.
It seems that in order to keep up with its competitor EA may very well be adapting that model for themselves. However, as of this moment a majority of that is still speculation with the only concrete information, which everyone already knew, being that EA
will be working on a Battlefield 4.
Moving from a series known for depicting military reality, to one that actually parodied it in one of its pre-launch trailers. The game is none other than Saints Row and its publisher has confirmed that “I know what Saints Row 4 is about and it is wilder
than this one.”
Those were the words of the Executive Vice-President of THQ, Danny Bilson during a recent interview for G4TV.
The eyebrow raising elements, or rather elements, of that particular statement is that firstly, Saints Row 3 has not even been released yet and the next instalment in the series is being talked about and secondly, it is difficult to fathom anything wilder
than what Saints Row: the Third is already promising the gaming community.
While there was nothing to suggest that work had already begun on the project, Bilson did elaborate on the ethos that would be responsible for guiding the next game, “Like any game, if you have a great creative core to it you must keep exploiting that core.”
Commenting on how the Saints Row series was never known for taking itself too seriously and how Saints Row: The Third and the games after it would follow the same formula he commented, “it’s a good example of how you take what you have and you ask, ‘what
could happen in the next?”
