Bawadi with strong credentials for the Mustaqbali (Handicap) (Tapeta) at Meydan on 3rd March
The Mustaqbali (Handicap) (Tapeta) that is open for participation by three-year-old and above thoroughbreds is to be held at Meydan and raced over a mile and three furlongs. A competent lineup of fourteen will battle across the field for the £7, 742 purse.
Among the lineup, Bawadi, Medaglia D’Oro’s six-year-old brown horse out of mare Chartreuse, has recently updated his profile with victories during the new season and is unbeaten in the two starts that he made in 2012.
He won the Swaidan Trading Company Peugeot (Handicap) (Tapeta) on 21st January at Meydan over a mile and one and a half furlong.
M. Bin Shafya trained Bawadi won the race while in lead of ½ a length and had Pat Cosgrave onboard. Bin Shamardal finished the closest to the winner and the third place was taken away by Masaalek. The 9/2 favourite of the race, Paschendale, ended the race
eighth on the field of fourteen competing.
Bawadi’s next victory came his way on 18th February in the Ford Explorer Trophy (Handicap) (Dirt) at Sharjah over a mile and four furlongs. Bawadi led the field of sixteen by a length and had Mutual Force in close pursuit, who qualified as the
runner up of the race while riding with Royston Ffrench.
Natural Law with jockey Mirco Demuro finished third in line after the winner.
Owned by Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed al Maktoum, Bawadi is in for his third ride of the new season along with a chance to strike his seasonal hat trick.
Another entry on the lineup who was not only sent as a favourite during the final of the 2011 season but also struck a victory through it, is Poacher, Pivotal’s four-year-old chestnut colt out of mare Silent Honor.
He won the Prix De Colleraie (Prix Time’s Up Family) on 31st August at Clairefontaine while riding with Tony Farina. He was entered as a 7/5 favourite and today will be after nearly six months that the four-year-old colt is stepping down for a
race. Poacher was under training A. Fabre till 27th February 2012 and now has been taken over by E. Charpy.
The young colt is in for an altogether new experience, new race course, new trainer and a combination of highly diverse talent that he has not encountered before.
