  1. The pilot light should already be lit unless the house has been empty for any length of time. There should be a time switch/programmer on the wall. Turn the heating or hot water on and listen to the back boiler, within a short period of time it should light itself and you'll hear a whoosh. Job done.

If the pilot light is NOT lit then should be a flap down panel beneath the fire section of the boiler, lower this and follow the instructions written on it.

    Hope that helps...

  2. If the house has been unoccupied for long term, leave the boiler off, as you have just moved in,for peace of mind, have the boiler serviced.Back boilers are opened flued appliances and potentially dangerous if left unchecked, and should be serviced at least once a year.

The heating engineer can show how it works and point out any faults on the system which the previous occupier could be liable for.

  3. First of all you cant blow yourself up!! If you do it wrong it wont work.Simple as that! No gas will come out. Firstly make sure the gas is on at the meter & the mains is on to the boiler!!(There may be a plug or switch either on the left or right side of boiler or up in airing cupboard). Next, you need to lay down & look under the fire front plinth & look for a grey push button & a smaller black button. Then push in the grey button as far as it will go & at the same time repeatedly push the black one until it clicks.Keep looking for a blue flame at floor level .Once you see the flame, hold your finger on the grey button for about 15secs & stop with the black button.Slowly release the grey button & the flame should stay lit.If not repeat as above. Then find the clock/programmer & turn HW or CH to on & the boiler should fire. The fire front plinth may have the lighting instructions on it too, if you get stuck. Good luck & enjoy your new home!
