what is the proportion of bart users vs the car drivers during commute time?

Public transportation in the SF Bay area is better than most metro areas. Keep in mind BART only represents a small portion of transit providers in the large transportation network. Cal-Train, SamTrans, AC Transit, MUNI, Golden Gate Transit, VTA etc etc all have extensive bus, ferry and rail systems. For further destinations there are regional systems like ACE rail, SJRTD, MAX  and Baylink which connect places like Stockton, Modesto and Fairfield to the Bay.
