Bay of Plenty beat North Harbour convincingly in third clash of ITM Cup - Rugby News
Bay of Plenty defeated North Harbour by a large difference of 21 points to grab their second victory of the ITM Cup. Bay of Plenty scored three tries in the match to clinch the victory on July 23, in Mount Maunganui.
The win has moved Bay Of Plenty up to the second position on the tables with nine points after playing two matches. The huge margin of victory has also earned them a bonus point for them as Chris Noakes earned 18 individual points for his team.
Bay of Plenty was very impressive from the start of the first-half and dominated their rivals with their aggressive style until the end of the match.
Sam Cane put his side on the score board early with a brilliant try just in the third minute of the match. Cane deceived the Harbour players from far away and Chris Noakes helped his team with a two pointer in the fourth minute of the match. Just five minutes
later, Lelia Masaga scored the second try of the match for Bay of Plenty and Noakes committed no mistake in adding two more points to their total.
Chris Noakes kicked two penalty shots before the interval to help his side to a comprehensive lead of 20-0 with 20 minutes to go in the break. The Harbour’s opened their account just two minutes before the intermission as Botica scored three points on a
penalty goal for his team. Bay of Plenty concluded the first-half at 20-3 due to the excellent performance of Noakes.
Sluggish play was seen by the Bay of Penalty as they failed to maintain the momentum of the first-half after the break. Their opponents played a much more improved game but not fair enough to grab victory. Matthew Luamanu got the game underway for Harbour
with a 60th minute try and Cody Rei elevated his side with the other one just five minutes later in the game.
Meanwhile, Noakes continued with the good work and scored eight points in the second-half for his team. Bay of Plenty will face Waikato in their next clash of ITM Cup on July 26.
