Bay of Plenty hammers Waikato to clinch third consecutive victory in ITM Cup - Rugby News
Bay of Plenty beat Waikato by 36-8 in its third match of the ITM Cup in Rotorua on July 26. They scored four tries to grab the third consecutive victory in the championship and made their place on top of the point’s tables. Toby Arnold helped his side with
two tries and Daniel Waenga contributed 14 individual points in his team’s victory. Waikato on the other hand received their second defeat in a row in the event. Waikato managed to score just one try and a three pointer in the whole match and was left chasing
the BoP players.
Waikato could not help avoid a stunning defeat despite huge changes in their team for this particular match. They had made 10 changes in their team to make a comeback into the tournament after a defeat at the hands of Taranaki on July 30-23. Waikato included
four players of the Super Rugby Chiefs among the 10 changes to compete against BoP but failed to break their losing streak.
After the victory over Waikato, BoP has become the first team to win three matches in the tournament. They are also the only side to remain unbeaten in the championship in the so far played matches.
The Bay of Plenty players gained ground in the match from the very start of the game and kept Waikato under pressure throughout the game. It was great teamwork from the BoP players and they did not provide Waikato any chance to bounce back in the match.
Toby Arnold, Chris Noakes and Taniela Mao played a vital role in their side’s victory. On the other hand the big guns of Waikato, including their skipper Nathan White, Jackson Willison and Ben May remained silent in the match and let their opponents run
all over the field.
Bay of Plenty will face the Wellington side in their next clash of ITM Cup on July 31. The sides played the match with following players:
