Bay of Plenty stands firm and thumps Southland by heavy margin: ITM Cup - Rugby Update
Bay of Plenty had a great day against Southland as they clinched a heavy margined victory at Invercargill on August 28. Bay of Plenty defeated Southland by 29-17 and sealed third position on the point’s tables. They grabbed six victories in the 10 outgoings
and remained unsuccessful on three occasions in the tournament. BoP collected 31 points in the whole event with an impressive goal average. Meanwhile, Southland concluded their miserable journey with another stunning defeat.
Bay of Plenty scored a massive four tries to secure a bonus point along with smooth sailing over Southland. Phil Burleigh elevated his BoP side with two well placed tries, whereas Sam Cane and Ben W Smith contributed one try each to the grand total of their
team. On the other hand, Southland managed to score three tries in the game but lacked in gathering penalty goals. Robbie Robinson, John Hardie and Sonny Rangitohereri were the main scorers for Southland.
Bay of Plenty had done well to take a psychological edge over the Southlanders as they scored a few quick points early in the match. They took a handsome lead of 15-7 at the interval which they further extended to 29-17 in the end.
Bay of Plenty made desperate attacks on Southlands’ goals and set the rapid tone of the game very early. Southland could not play up to the mark during the first-half but gave a tough time in the other. Chris Noakes displayed a man of the match performance
for Bay of Plenty with tremendous job with his boots. He scored three plenty goals for his team.
