The President insisted that Bayern Chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge’s comments were mere frustration of missing out on the player and added that Leverkusen would surely not want its competitors to get stronger at their expense.
“Just because a player does not comply with a promise to sign for a team it does not mean he lacks character. I think this is absolutely exaggerated. We denied him a transfer to a Bundesliga rival. We do not want to make our competitors
stronger. We aim to play at the top,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
