Bayer Leverkusen boss happy with Stuttgart victory
Bayer Leverkusen manager Jupp Heynckes has spoken of his delight after his players picked up three points against Stuttgart with an impressive display in the sides’ German Bundesliga clash at the Mercedes-Benz-Arena.
Heynckes led his men to a 4-1 victory, thanks to goals from Sami Hypia, Arturo Vidal Pardo, Hanno Balitsch and Sidney Sam. The win was made a little easier for Leverkusen when Stuttgart midfielder Mauro Camoranesi was sent off after just 31 minutes.
The Leverkusen coach told reporters that, “It was a well-deserved win against a team who can do much better than what they showed on Saturday. The only negative was that we eased off after the break and allowed ourselves to be pushed back. But then we came
back, created enough chances before the third goal and we deserved to win the game.”
The win means that Leverkusen has moved up to fourth place in the Bundesliga standings with 11 points after six matches — seven points behind leaders Mainz (who have a 100 percent record so far in the league this season), and three points ahead of giants
Bayern Munich.
Meanwhile, Stuttgart boss Christian Gross added that Leverkusen were the rightful winners of the match.
"Bayer Leverkusen deserved to win the game today. We never had a chance of winning, especially after the poor start we made to the game. Leverkusen always had more men in the vicinity of the ball and we never got into the challenges. It was a bad day for
us. When we pulled the goal back there was a brief period of hope but that was over once they made it 3-1. We need to work hard, the situation is very serious.”
The loss leaves Stuttgart at the bottom of the table with just three points from their six matches so far.
