Bayer Leverkusen get permanent hold of Bernd Leno until 2017 - Bundesliga News
Bayer Leverkusen have recently announced the permanent signing of their on-loan goalkeeper, Bernd Leno, from VfB Stuttgart. The club were always interested in the player’s permanent acquisition following his performances both in the Bundesliga and the Champions
League.
Leno initially joined Leverkusen on a six-month loan deal due to long term injuries to Rene Adler and Fabian Giefer.
The player took no time to settle down at the club and soon won many hearts at BayArena. Leno started making strides and gradually became a popular figure amongst the fans.
The Leverkusen officials initially expressed interest in the player which was denied by Stuttgart officials. The Swabians, at first, wanted to retain the youngster but agreed to the Werkself officials after getting the desired amount for the teenager.
The club’s sporting director, Rudi Voller, expressed delight at the player’s permanent transfer and wished him best of luck for the rest of his Leverkusen career.
Leno will now be available to the club until June 2017.
While talking to the club’s official website, Voller further mentioned:
"In Bernd Leno, we have secured the services of one of the most outstanding goalkeeping talents in Germany in the long term.”
"Bernd has helped us through a very difficult situation in the past few months. He superbly filled in for the injured Rene Adler, and played a big part in helping us qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League." He added.
Leno’s performances have also been praised outside Germany following his tremendous form in the Champions League.
The Werkself recently registered a win over Chelsea in the Champions League and Leno’s outstanding show was highly praised by most Chelsea players and their under-pressure manager, Andre Villas-Boas.
Leno, on the other hand, seemed pleased with his transfer as things went according to his desire. He thanked the Stuttgart officials for reacting positively at this deal and helping him develop during his time at the club.
He also showed gratitude to the Werkself officials for acknowledging his talent and ensuring his stay at BayArena until 2017. The goalie will play his first game as a confirmed Werkself player against Hoffenheim on Friday, December 2.
