Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Fabian Giefer ruled out of Sunday’s game – Bundesliga news
Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fabian-Giefer-c13104 has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against Werder Bremen with an external injury. The 21-year-old stood as cover for the injured, Rene Adler, who is the club’s first choice.
It was Giefer’s mistake that led to Mainz first goal, who later went on to win the game by a 2-0 margin. Giefer received a knock from the opposition striker, Eric-Maxim-Choupo-Moting, on the 84th minute mark and was later carried to the hospital.
The youngster was diagnosed with concussion and has been advised a two-day rest by the doctors.
Giefer is now certain to miss out on club’s second game of the season against Bremen on Sunday, August 14. With Rene Adler ruled out until September and standby keeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-c10409 Yelldell also injured, Leverkusen manager Robin Dutt has some serious thinking to
do ahead of an all important encounter.
The Werkself recently showed interest in VfB Stuttgart’s young goalie, Brend Leno, after learning about Giefer’s injury. It is likely that Leno could be on his way out of Stuttgart at least for this part of the campaign as a cover for the injured shot-stoppers.
It has also been reported that Leverkusen could be forced to recall injured Yelldell if Leno’s arrival at the club is delayed. Leno, on the other hand, made himself available to represent the 2010/11 runners-up in an anticipation of first team opportunities
at BayArena.
He also considered this a chance of winning silverware with Leverkusen and wanted to make a move. He felt honoured at being considered Adler’s replacement and showed gratitude to the Werkself officials on short listing him for that role.
Giefer admitted about his mistake on Sunday against Mainz, and vowed to make a strong return from injury. The 21-year-old joined the club’s senior side in 2009 after spending two years with the second string team and has five league games under his belt
until now. He also has showed up once for the German U-18 side in his short career so far.
