Bayer Leverkusen keen to keep Bernd Leno as Rene Adler nears exit- Bundesliga news
Bayer Leverkusen have reportedly shown the desire to keep on-loan Stuttgart goalkeeper Bernd Leno permanently, according to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/VfB-Stuttgart-c40879 Sporting Director Fredi Bobic. He claimed that the player has performed brilliantly since
his loan move in the summer and Werkself want to keep him.
Rene Adler suffered a knee injury and is still out after he underwent a surgery before the start of the season. Bernd Leno was signed as a replacement and his displays have been mighty impressive so far in the campaign. Adler was
expected to return in September but the rehabilitation process means that he is still out with injury.
The German international was set to be offered a new contract but his wage demands have not done any better for him as the club look to sign 19-year old Leno on a permanent basis.
Bobic claimed that Bayer Leverkusen have shown interest to keep Leno at the club. He stated that either they will acquire the player on a permanent basis or could sign him for another season on-loan.
“The contractual situation is clear, but we expect Bayer Leverkusen to talk with us in November or December. We must always see what the most sensible outcome is for all concerned; for the clubs and the player. It is conceivable
that he could be sold to Leverkusen, or a longer loan spell could be considered,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
According to widespread rumours, Adler has been linked with a move to Schalke or Hamburg in the future after losing his place in the starting line-up. However, the player claimed that he wants to be fit as soon as possible and
is eager to return to the side. He played down reports that there have been talks with Schalke and Hamburg in recent weeks.
“My only goal is a comeback. I want to be healthy. I have had no discussions with other clubs, not even with Schalke and HSV. The same goes for my agent,” he added.
Rene Adler has made 173 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen.
