Bayer Leverkusen manager Jupp Heynckes confident of finishing second – Bundesliga news
Bayer Leverkusen boss, Jupp Heynckes, has stated that he is confident the club will finish the Bundesliga season in second place despite poor form recently. He claimed that his side will definitely seal the second place berth next week after a good result
against SC Freiburg.
Leverkusen have been in poor form recently with only two wins in the last five games in Bundesliga, whereas rivals Bayern Munich have been simply sensational in the past few weeks. The Bavarians have scored 19 goals in their last five games and are unbeaten
in their last five fixtures.
With only a game to go in the German domestic season, Heynckes’ side is three points ahead of the Munich giants. The Werkself cannot afford a loss in their next fixture as a win to Bayern would put Die Bayern in second place.
The manager was disappointed with his team’s poor performance against Hamburg at home over the weekend. Both teams played a 1-1 draw at BayArena in Leverkusen. He admitted that the display was nothing close to their last six home game performances.
“My team were knocked off course after going behind to an early goal. Thereafter, we played a lot of loose passes and we did not function well as a unit. We played poorly in the first-half and Hamburg gave a good performance. We managed to get an equaliser
but today we did not manage to play inspired football as in our last six home games,” he was quoted.
The tactician urged his side to give their all in their last game of the season against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/SC-Freiburg-c40462. He remained confident of a second placed finish at the end of the season and stated that they deserve it.
“In Freiburg we will perform very differently. We have long occupied the second place in the table and we will also be there after the final round of games is over,” the German concluded.
Heynckes will take over as Bayern Munich coach at the start of next season after agreeing to a contract in March this year.
