Bayer Leverkusen manager Robin Dutt has awarded the goalkeeping role to US international David Yelldell after Rene Adler was ruled out after undergoing a knee surgery. The manager insisted that the decision was made on the basis
of experience and the players past performances with MSV Duisburg.
The club’s number one Rene Adler suffered an injury blow in a friendly against Red Bull Salzburg this summer and had to undergo a knee surgery which will rule him out for the start of the season. The German international is confident
of a return in September and wants to fully recover before making a comeback.
Dutt admitted that it was a very close call to decide between David Yelldell and 21-year old http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fabian-Giefer-c13104. He stated that the former won the race on the basis of experience as he guided Duisburg to the German Cup final after eventually
losing to Schalke.
“It was a very close decision. The experience speaks for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-c10409. Yelldell is scored for years, had great success in Duisburg last year in the cup,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The manager also insisted that Giefer is disappointed with the decision but he has accepted it with respect. The coach claimed that Giefer is still young and has many years in front of him as a player.
“Of course, Fabian is very disappointed, it has however accepted with respect. I do not think that influenced his future career,” he continued.
Yelldell expressed his delight on being selected as the number one for the start of the season. He admitted that his place is temporary but wants to prove his worth at the club in the absence of Adler.
“I'm still not here for a long time. Now I'll try as best we can fill the gap, which René has left temporarily,” the American added.
