Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Michael Ballack disappointed with Hamburg draw- Bundesliga news
Bayer Leverkusen midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Ballack-c25270 has expressed his disappointment on the draw against Hamburg this past weekend. He claimed that it could have been an easy win for the side but some lapses in defence deprived the side
of a vital victory in the end.
Werkself threw a two goal lead in the first-half to eventually draw the match as both sides shared the spoils at the BayArena on Saturday. Andre Schurrle and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lars-Bender-c21663 gave the hosts a 2-0 lead inside the first 20 minutes but
goals from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marcell-Jansen-c23544 ended the match in an eventful 2-2 draw.
Ballack was frustrated with the result and claimed that the match could have easily been finished if the team had capitalised on the early lead. He admitted that there was a lapse in concentration from the defenders of which the
opposition took full advantage.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 player insisted that the team still lacks confidence and character and added that the club should have gone for a third goal rather than sitting and defending.
“We were leading 2-0 and had the game completely under control for the opening 30 minutes. Hamburg seized on a lack of concentration to get back into the game, which was totally unnecessary from our point of view. We lacked belief
in our own strength. We were unable to press on, turn up the heat and play for a third goal,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The former German international stated that home wins are very important and dropping points at home could be crucial at the end of the season. He wants his team to step up and play with more determination and positivity in the
future.
“We lacked concentration not only going forward, but also in defence, which is typical during a difficult phase. We're currently eighth or ninth in the table and that's not the Leverkusen way,” he concluded.
Bayer Leverkusen will next face FC Kaiserslautern at the Fritz-Walter Stadium on Friday, November 18. They are currently eighth on the Bundesliga standings table with 18 points from the 12 games played, winning five and losing
four in the process.
