Bayer Leverkusen’s Andre Schurrle disappointed with defensive performance against Hertha http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Berlin-c7536
Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Andre Schurrle has expressed his disappointment on the side’s defensive performance in the recent Bundesliga clash against Hertha Berlin. The two sides drew 3-3 to share the spoils, making it the second
high scoring draw for Robin Dutt’s side this month. Earlier this month they shared a point with Hamburg when the score was 2-2.
Werkself travelled to Hertha Berlin this Saturday at the Olympiastadion as both team’s scored three goals each to end one of the most exciting matches in the league in recent times. Eren Derdiyok scored a stunning hat-trick for
his team as Leverkusen climbed to the sixth spot with 22 points from the 14 games played.
Schurrle stated that he is unsatisfied with the 3-3 draw from his team and regarded it as a backward step for them. He claimed that the main aim was to secure another win after the great performance against FC Kaiserslautern in
the previous week and close in on the leaders but that did not happen.
The striker insisted that the gap has now increased which means the team should work harder to achieve results and end in the top four at the end of the season.
“This is definitely a backwards step for us, we wanted to get closer to the leaders, but now it appears there is a larger gap between us and the top,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The German international criticised his back four for letting in easy goals for the home side. He admitted that the defending surely could have been better and should improve in the coming weeks if the team has any chances to climb
the standings table and challenge for the honours.
“We always let in stupid goals. This is insane. This [Pierre-Michel Lasogga's equaliser] was again a very simple situation in the field, that we resolved very badly,” he concluded.
Bayer Leverkusen will next host Hoffenheim at the BayArena on Friday in search of their seventh win of the season. A win this week would take them level on points with Schalke, who will take on FC Augsburg later in Sunday.
