Bayer Leverkusen’s Michael Ballack admits his side was lucky against Chelsea
Bayer Leverkusen midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Ballack-c25270 has admitted that his side was lucky to win against Chelsea in the recent UEFA Champions League clash. He stated that the Londoners started the game brilliantly and totally deserved to
go into the lead but his team took benefit from some of the mistakes of the opposition and scored two goals.
Werkself downed Chelsea 2-1 at BayArena to qualify for the knock-out stages of the competition. It was the club’s third win at home in the Champions League after wins against Valencia and Racing Genk.
The Blues opened the scoring in the first-half through http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Manuel-Friedrich-c23401 sealed the win for the home side who secured all three points in the end.
Ballack, who was facing his former side Chelsea, claimed that Leverkusen were surely lucky to sneak out a win. He admitted that it is very difficult for a team to go 1-0 early in the match and hailed his team’s character to force
an amazing comeback after the interval.
“Of course it's always a little bit lucky if you score in the last minute, but we believed in ourselves. Being 1-0 down against Chelsea is always difficult. We believed, though. We thought ‘they are not in the best moment’, but
of course in the end it was a little bit lucky,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The former Bayern Munich player added that there was initial belief amongst the squad that they could not beat Chelsea but after the equaliser there was determination and passion. He insisted that a 1-1 draw would have been a fair
result for both sides but luck was on their side so they won.
“We started well, but I had a feeling we didn't believe we could win. Then we had nothing to lose, we got better and better and deserved the 1-1. In the end a draw would have been OK but of course, we got the victory,” he concluded.
Bayer Leverkusen will play their last match away against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863 at Stamford Bridge.
