Bayer Leverkusen’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Ballack-c25270 insists draw would have been a fair result against Schalke
Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Michael Ballack has insisted that his team did not deserve to lose against Schalke this weekend. He claimed that both sides were evenly matched and had created many opportunities to score and that it would have been fair for both
sides if they shared the spoils.
Die Knappen downed Bayer Leverkusen at the BayArena on Sunday courtesy a Jefferson Farfan goal in the dying moments of the match. Both sides had ample opportunities to score but were unlucky in the end. Werkself were unable to
capitalise on the 2-1 home win against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863 in the UEFA Champions League last week.
Ballack insisted that it was a fair match throughout the course of 90 minutes as both the teams created opportunities to score but failed to convert any of them in the first-half. The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 man admitted that Leverkusen
were denied a free-kick by the referee and Schalke scored on the counter attack, which was the turning point of the game.
“The game was even and I think that we had a slight advantage, but neither side really deserved to win. A draw would have been fair, and then there was this one situation in the penalty area where a free-kick could have been given,
and then they score at the other end. This situation decided the game today,” he was quoted as saying in an interview to Sky Television.
The former German international, however, added that the team’s defence was at fault for the goal that Schalke scored late in the second-half. He stated that there was no marking and backing-up when they were denied a free-kick
which made the counter a lot easier for the visitors.
“Even if we did not get the free-kick, we have got to cover better and not let them have seven or eight men against just two of us. That really should not happen,” he concluded.
Bayer Leverkusen are currently ninth on the Bundesliga standings table with 14 points from the 10 games played. They have secured four victories and suffered four defeats. Werkself next play http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/SC-Freiburg-c40462 in the league on Friday.
