Bayer Leverkusen’s Robin Dutt delighted with his team’s spirited display against Chelsea
Bayer Leverkusen manager, Robin Dutt, has expressed delight at his team’s spirited fight-back against Chelsea in the Champions League. He also applauded his veteran midfielder, Michael Ballack, on completing his 100th European appearance against
one of his former clubs.
Dutt was talking in the wake of his team’s 2-1 win over Chelsea on Wednesday, November 23, at BayArena. Two late goals in the second half scripted the Blues' downfall, after http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Didier-Drogba-c11044 had taken the lead for the visitors.
With the latest win, Leverkusen have climbed atop group E and have also secured a place in the next round. A win in their last game against Genk would guarantee them a top spot in their group, while http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 will have to fight against Valencia for the only
available next round berth.
The manager reserved applause for his side on making a much needed comeback when they were looking down and out with just quarter of the game remaining. He also showered praise on the two goal scorers for bringing the Werkself back in contention.
Eren Derdiyok equalised the scoring on the 73rd minute and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Manuel-Friedrich-c23401 grabbed a winner in the stoppage time to break the Chelsea hearts.
While talking during a post-match press conference, the tactician further mentioned:
"Our never-say-die attitude was key tonight. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Ballack-c25270 was great but we were fantastic as a team tonight, one mustn't praise one player in particular. It's an outstanding night for the team and I'm part of the team, so it was a great night for me as
well. The lads absolutely deserved the win as they delivered a passionate performance.”
"Just like against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863, we staged a comeback at home after conceding the first goal. This speaks volumes about the character and quality of the squad. In Genk we will do everything to stay top of the group."
Dutt’s men, though, are struggling in the Bundesliga and find themselves seventh on the league table with 21 points from 13 games.
