Bayern Munich: ‘Bastian Schweinsteiger not for sale’
Bayern Munich has reiterated that their star mid-fielder, Bastian Schweinsteiger, is not for sale.
Bastian’s contract expires in 2012 and the player has not yet entered into negotiations about a new one. Top clubs from Spain and England are already eying to acquire the services of the German star, who has established himself as a world-class player, during his time at the Allianz Arena. The mid-fielder has previously been linked with a lucrative move to Manchester United and Chelsea, while Spanish giants Real Madrid have also shown a keen interest in signing the player. However, Bayern’s chairman KarlHeinz Rummenigge has played down all speculation on Schweinsteiger’s move away from Bavaria, until the expiration of his contract. He said,
“We will not be letting the player go before his contract ends in 2012 in any case. Bastian has developed a great deal in the last two years and I am very optimistic that we and his agents can find an agreement. Our aim is to give Bastian a long-term contract."
Bastian had a terrific season with Bayern in 2009/2010; where he won the German Bundesliga, DFB Pokal Cup and the UEFA Champions League runners-up medal. The twenty-six-year-old also put out magnificent performances during this year’s, FIFA World Cup in South Africa, and helped Germany finish third in the tournament. The magical mid-fielder has established himself as the number one mid-field player in Germany, where he has won five German Bundesliga titles. However, a fresh challenge away from his home country might tempt him to move elsewhere in Europe.
Meanwhile the president of the club, Uli Hoeness, has called upon his team to show fighting spirit to regain top spot in the Bundesliga standings and ensure qualification for next season’s Champions League. The final of the competition will take place at the Allianz Arena, home ground of Bayern Munich, in May 2012.  He said,
“We have got to get into the Champions League, no matter what. Let us not forget that the final in 2012 takes place in the Allianz Arena and we have got to be there. I appeal to you
all not to give up. Bayern Munich must fight to the bitter end and then we will see what comes out of it.”
