Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge criticizes Louis Van Gaal’s negative attitude
Bayern Munich CEO, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has taken a swipe at the former club manager, Louis Van Gaal, for having a negative attitude during his stay with the club.
Van Gaal was sacked by the club last week after a string of poor performances by Die Bayern, which leave the club struggling for a UEFA Champions League spot. Bayern have had a miserable time in the ongoing 2010-11 season with both on-field and off the field issues.
The German Champions are failing to defend their league title as they are placed fourth on the league table and their qualification for UEFA Champions League for next season also remains in doubt. Die Roten lost to Schalke 04 in the semifinals of the DFB-Pokal Cup and have also been knocked out of the UEFA Champions League, leaving them with no chance of winning any silverware this season.
Rummenigge has blamed Van Gaal for the woeful season and said that the German Champions have suffered all season in his reign.
He said while speaking to reporters, "These are not pleasant times we're experiencing but we really have been playing out of tune for the whole season. I don't know. We really wanted to end the season with Van Gaal. But we also said if Champions League qualification is in danger, we must act as we did on Saturday."
"Van Gaal's failure is clearly in his attitude; if that mentality is customary - as it is with [Felix] Magath - you have to have success. If it fails, you lose your friends. And the look of the league table and the other competitors is sobering," added Rummenigge.
Rummenigge revealed that Van Gaal always ignored the board’s advice and had his own beliefs. He added that Schalke goalkeeper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Manuel-c23383 Neuer’s possible move to Bayern was halted by Van Gaal and the whole story resulted in an unsettling mood in the dressing room.
The 55-year-old added that Van Gaal had a negative influence on the fans too and they had started losing faith in the team. However, Rummenigge has assured the fans that none of their first team players will be sold in the summer transfer window and they will see the club return to winning ways soon.
Bayern play a must-win match against Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday, April 17, to boost their chances of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League next season.
