Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has hailed his team following the recent success it has had in all competitions. He claimed that the players showed great character in the game against Manchester City and the win could be
vital in the club’s chances for the knock-out phase this season.

Rummenigge claimed that the players again proved that they are the team to beat this season. He insisted that keeping a clean sheet against the high flying Manchester City was a huge achievement and the club is now comfortably
placed at the top with six points. He remained confident of qualification for the knock-out stage after the win and claimed that his side has the potential to win the competition.
“This was a test of our strength and we kept a clean sheet against a very offensive team. We are now five points ahead of City after only two games and six points ahead of Villarreal which means we have created the conditions for
the first step towards the round of 16,” he was quoted as saying in an address to the press.
The chief played down Bayern Munich’s chances of winning the Champions League this season stating that it is too early to jump up to conclusions. The former Bayern Munich forward admitted that the real race will start in the knock-out
phase when the best sides will meet each other.
“We would be wise to think about things step by step. The title is awarded in May and not September so let's keep the ball low because the Champions League really starts in the knockout phase,” he concluded.
