Bayern Munich forward, Ivica Olic, expressed delight after being declared fit by the doctors prior to the start of the 2011/12 season. He was relieved to be back in training and among his teammates after a long and torturous lay-off. The player was confident
about his immediate first team chances and was looking forward to the start of the new season.
The Croatian international showed gratitude towards the club’s medical staff for their hard work which has enabled him to stand on his feet again. Olic mentioned that it were the most difficult of eight months of his Munich career, but he had to bear all
that in order to get fit. The 31-year-old told that he made a lot of sacrifices during that period and was pleased to be announced fit after spending most of the last season on the sidelines.
In an interview to a local website, Olic added, "I was injured for eight months and this time I had to spend many, many hours alone in rehab. I also had my own personal training program behind me. I am now looking forward to all the upcoming training. And
should things become difficult for me, for example if I have some muscle stiffness, I will remember the last few months by way of motivation. Then I will immediately think: Thank God I can train once more."
The former CSKA Moscow player admitted the fact that he would have to fight to regain his place in the Bavarians line-up but reiterated his desire of becoming a first team regular as he was before the injury. Olic also praised his fellow striker, Mario Gomez,
and hoped that the 25-year-old could maintain the same level of performances during the next season. The German also hoped to finish one step ahead as compared to the last season, where they finished third on the table.
Olic joined Munich in 2009 and has managed 35 league appearances so far, netting 11 goals in return. The player made his Croatian debut in 2002 and has mustered 14 goals from 73 games so far.
Bayern Munich will start their new campaign on Sunday, August 7 against Borussia Monchengladbach.
