Bayern Munich President Uli Hoeness doubts Champions League triumph this season
Bayern Munich President Uli Hoeness has expressed his doubts of the team’s triumph in the UEFA Champions League this season as he does not feel the Munich giants are at the same level with Barcelona and Real Madrid.
He admitted that the two Spanish giants are currently playing football out of this world and it would definitely take his side some time to reach that level after a poor last season.
Bayern Munich have qualified for the group stages of Europe’s elite club after beating Swiss side FC Zurich with a 3-0 aggregate. The Bavarians won the first-leg 2-0 at Allianz Arena and the second-leg at Letzigrund 1-0 courtesy
a Mario Gomez striker.
The President claimed that the side’s priority was to reach the group stages of the UEFA Champions League and that target has been achieved as Bayern downed FC Zurich in the play-offs.
Hoeness doubted the club’s ability to win the competition this term as he thinks that the team is still in the transformation phase after a dismal showing in the last campaign. He claimed that there are some new players in the
squad and they will take time to settle in.
“Our aim is not to reach the final. At the moment, it is not our goal to get there. Look at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 and Real Madrid. When you see these teams play, we cannot currently say that we will win the Champions League,” he was quoted
as saying in an interview.
The chief was all praise for Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid. He admitted that the two teams are playing some brilliant football and insisted that one of the two will win the Champions League this season. He also added
that he is looking forward to playing any of the two teams in the future.
“We might even play one of these teams in future,” he concluded.
The draws for the group stages of the UEFA Champions League will be held on Thursday, August 25, in Monaco after all the play off matches are completed.
