Bayern Munich captain Philipp Lahm hits out at Jurgen Klinsmann’s reign as manager
Bayern Munich skipper Philipp Lahm has hit out at Jurgen Klinsmann’s reign and stated that the manager had his least focus on the tactics of the game. The defender admitted that the players had to discuss themselves about the strategies
and tactics for the matches and Klinsmann only focused on physical fitness.
Jurgen Klinsmann managed Bayern Munich in the 2008-09 season and led the club to a runner-up finish in the Bundesliga to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/VfL-Wolfsburg-c40881 and reached the quarter-final of both the UEFA Champions League and DFB-Pokal. The former German
international had differences with the Bayern board and left his post at the end of the season.
Lahm insisted that deploying Klinsmann as manager of the club was a failure and he did not focus on the tactical aspect of the game. He stated that the manager only stressed on physical training and the players themselves had to
come up with a tactical plan for the respective match.
“The experiment with Klinsmann was a failure. We were only working on our fitness in training. He didn't care much for tactical stuff,” he is quoted as saying in his autobiography.
The German international further added that most of the players had doubts over the tactician’s managerial skills and had to put in a lot of effort to get things right. He insisted that Bayern were lucky to even finish second on
the standings table as the performances on the pitch were well under par.
“It was up to the players to come together before a match and discuss how we were going to play. All the players knew after about eight weeks that it was not going to work out with Klinsmann. The remainder of that campaign was
nothing but limiting the damage,” he concluded.
