Karl-Heinz Rummenigge defends Bastian Schweinsteiger after Arjen Robben criticism – Bundesliga news
Bayern Munich chairman, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Bastian-Schweinsteiger-c7374, after the Bavarian vice-captain took criticism from Arjen Robben.
Last Thursday, Arjen Robben had said that the team missed the guidance of Dutchman http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mark-van-Bommel-c24148, who left the club for AC Milan in the January transfer window. Robben’s comments towards the team lacking leadership were not taken too well by Schweinsteiger
and his team-mate Philip Lahm. Club chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge also jumped to the safety of the influential playmaker and said that it was outrageous to insult a player who has such a good sporting resume. The chairman, however, admitted that Schweinsteiger’s
reaction did fall short of professionalism when he angrily stormed out of the press-conference.
"On the other hand, we understand that Bastian Schweinsteiger sometimes gets quite defensive. That he ended up in this emotional situation with his over-the-top choice of words is not right. This he knows," said Rummenigge.
When a reporter asked Schweinsteiger about Robben’s comments, the German International stormed out of the press conference angrily and also insulted the reporter. Sporting director, Christian Nerlinger, also defended the player and said, "I appreciate him
very much as a leader on the field and as a person. If FC Bayern are fourth in the table, it is normal for there to be criticism. He will give the right answer on the pitch on Saturday."
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arjen-Robben-c6521, on the other hand, will return to action after suspension and will be taking to the field alongside Bastian Schweinsteiger as Bayern Munich host a resurgent Schalke side. The Bavarians are currently fourth in the Bundesliga standings, a single
point behind Hannover who occupy 3rd position in the league table. The third spot is the final spot for UEFA Champions League qualification, meaning Bayern Munich will have to win the remaining three games of the season and hope that Hannover slip-up,
something that can still happen judging by the inconsistent form shown by both the teams.
