Schalke 04 goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer, has reportedly been linked with Bundesliga outfit Bayern Munich after the youngster’s terrific performances this season. The 25-year-old has been attracting from a host of top European clubs and could quite possibly make
a move to Bayern at the end of this term.
Neuer was previously linked with UEFA Champions League finalists, Manchester United. The inspirational figure was set to fill in the boots of United legend, Edwin van der Sar, who is set to retire at the end of the ongoing 2010/11 season. The German International,
though, confirmed that it would be difficult for him to make a move out of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904, therefore, he would love to stay in Bundesliga for some more time.
According to a local newspaper, Bayern Munich have made an £18 million bid for the shot-stopper, which is comparatively better than their previous offer of £15.8 million. The club officials are yet to confirm if Neuer would be staying for the next season.
The previous offer was rejected immediately by Schalke officials, as the bid did not match Schalke’s valuation of the player.
Schalke sporting director mentioned, "The offer from Bayern was not worth mentioning, not acceptable. It is seriously worth considering keeping the world's best goalkeeper for another year.”
The goalkeeper came through the Schalke youth ranks and earned a place in the senior team in 2005. Since then, he has managed 155 League appearances for the Bundesliga outfit. He also has made 17 International appearances for the German national side to
date.
Sporting Director, Heldt, confirmed that the officials had a detailed conversation with Bayern Munich and both parties seemed satisfied with the developments. He concluded by saying, "Yes, we [Schalke and Bayern] had a decent conversation."
Schalke would be hoping to retain the impressive figure at least for one more year in spite of not being able to qualify for 2011/12 UEFA Champions League. Schalke are currently 14th in the League table with 40 points and will next be in action
against 1. FC Koln on Saturday, May 14.
