Bayern Munich fire Dutch coach Louis van Gaal
Reports confirm Bayern Munich coach, Louis van Gaal, has been sacked with immediate effect.
The Dutch coach was expected to leave the German outfit at the end of the current season, a year earlier than his contract stated.
However, the board at Bayern Munich decided to fire the 59-year old manager with only five games remaining in the season.
Louis van Gaal’s assistant coach, Andries Jonker, will see the club through to the end of the season.
Munich recently drew 1-1 in their last fixture because of which they dropped to third place on the table, barely qualifying for next season’s Champions League. With their recent poor run they are no longer capable of defending their title and were eliminated
from the cup competitions early on in the season.
This seems a changed side from Bayern Munich last season, which managed to win the Bundesliga crown and cup. Apart from that they reached the final of the Champions League but lost out to Jose Mourinho’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan. With their faltering form, the board
had decided to terminate Van Gaal’s contract but the sacking comes as a big surprise.
Not only is it unexpected, it is also somewhat inconvenient. Bayern take on Bayer Leverkusen in their next Bundesliga fixture, a must-win clash if they wish to qualify for the Champions League next season.
Moreover, the Bayer Leverkusen coach is rumored to be next in line for the hot seat at Bayern Munich but currently he will be focusing on his side, which is competing for the title.
