The German giants lost to Chelsea in dramatic fashion via a penalty shootout at Allianz Arena in the Champions League final but their general manager has admitted that it will take some time for them to get over the painful
loss in front of their home support...
Bayern Munich’s general manager Nerlinger has come out and accepted that his team dominated the match against Chelsea but didn’t capitalize on their goal scoring chances which came back to haunt them in the end. Bayern were dominant
in the first and the second half of their encounter against Chelsea but despite having several clear cut goal scoring chances, the German home side failed to net in the first half.
In the second half, it was Thomas Muller who opened the scoring with a fantastic header but Bayern were caught sleeping from a corner kick which allowed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Didier-Drogba-c11044 to net a vital equalizer just before the end of normal time.
In extra time, Bayern were awarded a penalty kick which was saved by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Bastian-Schweinsteiger-c7374 missed the penalty kick which lost Bayern the match but they
could’ve done so much better in normal time if they had finished some of the chances that fell their way.
Nerlinger stated, "To sum it up, it is a nightmare which we have experienced. It is like a bad film. We totally dominated http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 and did not let them have any chances. We fought and battled and created chances and when you take
the lead in the 83rd minute, then the game is basically over.”
He added, "But then you concede an equaliser from the only chance from a corner in the game, and then you lose on penalties, what more can I say? We had plenty of match points, we just did not take them. We were clearly the better
team, but sadly we have lost and that is the reality."
It was indeed a cruel loss for Bayern Munich who had defeated Real Madrid on penalty kicks to reach the final and have the chance to lift the trophy in their own stadium but it wasn’t meant to be in the end as Chelsea captured
the European Cup for the first time in their history.
