Bayern Munich manager Jupp Heynckes deems Borussia Dortmund favourites to win the Bundesliga
Bayern Munich manager Jupp Heynckes has deemed counterparts Borussia Dortmund as favourites to win the Bundesliga next season. He stated that Jurgen Klopp’s side still has great quality and will be a difficult team to beat in the
next campaign.
Dortmund were fantastic last season as they won the league comprehensively with a very young side. The club secured 75 points at the end of the term and were seven points ahead of second placed Bayer Leverkusen. Die Bayern were
fortunate to secure the third place and qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
Heynckes stated that Borussia Dortmund are the favourites to win the league competition as they have a quality side and have a great manager. He added that the champions are always tipped to defend the title and the Borussians
have the potential to do that.
The tactician also labelled his former side Bayer Leverkusen amongst the possible contenders for the Bundesliga as they have made some additions to the squad with the likes of Andre Schurrle joining from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/1-FSV-Mainz-05-c38166.
“Dortmund are the reigning champions and the champions will of course go into the new season as the favourites. Bayer Leverkusen have also strengthened and these two teams, along with us, will battle it out for the league title,”
he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The former Borussia Monchengladbach striker remained confident that his side will also be real force next season after a busy summer. The Bavarian giants have strengthened their squad with some World-class players joining in.
Heynckes insisted that the team is determined to perform in the next campaign and learn from the mistakes committed in the term ended.
“Of course we want to be German title winners but no team is crowned before the final day of the season. The team has shown desire and commitment but it is difficult to put what we have worked on in the last few training sessions
into practice,” he concluded.
Jupp Heynckes joined Bayern Munich from Bayer Leverkusen this summer after guiding Werkself to a runners-up position in the last campaign.
