Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez has apologized for missing the penalty against Napoli in the UEFA Champions League clash on Tuesday. He stated that he had initially intended to put the ball in the centre of the goal but he placed
it on the right which was eventually saved by goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Morgan-De-Sanctis-c26801.
Bayern drew 1-1 against the Italian side in Naples on Tuesday courtesy a goal from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Toni-Kroos-c35425 and an own-goal from Holger Badstuber. Gomez had the opportunity to give the Munich giants the lead after the interval but his effort
was saved by the goalkeeper and the Bavarians were denied three points.
Gomez apologized to his team for missing the opportunity to score the second goal and claimed that she should have gone for the centre, which was his initial thought. He admitted that Bayern missed a host of chances to score throughout
the course of 90 minutes and were unlucky not to score more than one time.
However, the striker admitted that a point in Naples is also a good result for his side. He insisted that a win was possible but a point was still a satisfying result.
“I have to apologise to the team for missing the penalty. My idea was to aim for the centre of the goal – but somehow I sent it low and to the right. But despite that, we still had enough chances to win it. At the final whistle,
you walk off the field basically satisfied with a point, but dissatisfied because you could have won,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The former Stuttgart player is now hopeful that Bayern win the next two home games against Napoli and Villarreal and qualify for the knock-out stages of the competition.
“It's a slightly odd feeling. We now have consecutive home matches against Napoli and Villarreal – we have to win them both, and then we’re through,” he concluded.
Bayern Munich are leading the Group-A table with seven points from the three games played. They have been the far better side considering the likes of Napoli, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Villarreal-CF-c40899 and Manchester City have underperformed.
