Bayern Munich’s Andries Jonker pleased with his team’s show and his reign as a caretaker manager
Bayern Munich’s caretaker manager, Andries Jonker, has expressed his satisfaction with his team’s win over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/VfB-Stuttgart-c40879 which was also the last game of the season for both teams. Jonker also seemed a bit disappointed for not being able to finish second
in the Bundesliga which means that the Die Bayern would have to go through a qualifying tie to make their way into the group stages of UEFA Champions League.
Both sides met each other on Saturday, May 14, at the Allianz-Arena. Munich had to come from behind to record a 2-1 win over Stuttgart after striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Shinji-Okazaki-c33366 got them ahead on the 25th minute mark. Mario Gomez, in the 37th
minute, brought the home side level and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Bastian-Schweinsteiger-c7374 sealed the victory with a 71stminute strike.
Bayer Leverkusen, earlier on the same day, recorded a 1-0 away win over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/SC-Freiburg-c40462 to earn themselves a second placed finish in the League.
The caretaker manager further added, "We tried everything today and Stuttgart have shown they're not an easy task. I'm satisfied, nothing more. We have won nothing in the end and only achieved the minimum target."
Jonker was of the view that Munich should have finished in the league’s top two that could have won them a direct place in the group stages of the Champions League. He admitted that the ride got turbulent in between and it was the time where Leverkusen took
advantage of their slump, finishing three points above Die Bayern.
The stand in manager has had a decent spell with the club, grabbing 13 points from a possible of 15. The Dutchman was pleased to lead Bayern in the absence of their regular coach, Jupp Heynckes, and hoped to see the 66-year-old back in frame during the 2011/12
season.
He concluded by saying, "There is no cause for celebration. Today we had an outside chance to finish second but it wasn't to be. We tried to play at a high tempo and we won, so i'm satisfied."
This will be Heynckes third spell with the club after having already worked with them from 1987-91 and then was reinstated in 2009 on an interim basis.
