Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben has expressed satisfaction at his team’s hard fought win away to Stuttgart.
Having missed the flight to England for the Champions League game against Manchester City, and sitting out against Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga, Robben was included in the starting XI against VfB Stuttgart.
The player missed the last two games due to flu-like symptoms and only made a return on Sunday against the Swabians. He spent 85 minutes on the pitch without showing signs of any injury and was eventually substituted in the 85th minute.
Bayern were hosted by Stuttgart on Sunday, December 11, and emerged as 2-1 winners after losing to Manchester City in the midweek. Mario Gomez grabbed a brace for the winners while Christian Gentner scored the solitary goal for the home side.
Stuttgart went upfront as early as the sixth minute through Gentner, which prompted Munich to press harder. Gomez scored the equaliser on the 13th minute mark, signalling danger for the hosts.
Bayern went into lead after the restart and it was Gomez again, stamping his authority with his second of the evening. No team was able to score after that as Bayern clinched all three points, extending their lead atop the league table.
Robben told that Bayern were in desperate search of a win and hailed the entire team for their untiring efforts on Sunday. He reckoned that had Bayern dropped points at Mercedes-Benz-Arena, rest of the journey would have become difficult for the Bavarian
giants.
While talking to the club’s official website, the winger further enthused:
"We're very pleased with the outcome of the game. Our only target was the three points, and we've managed to achieve just that. No one was expecting Dortmund to drop points, but we've won our match so it's been a good day all together.”
He also showed delight at his own fitness and assured of staying injury-free for rest of the campaign.
"I'm just focussing on my game. I've been through a difficult period. What matters most to me is making it out onto the field. That's what counts." The Dutchmen concluded.
