Bayern Munich’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arjen-Robben-c6521 to miss Champions league clash with Villarreal due to injury
Bayern Munich have received a massive shock ahead of their opening UEFA Champions League group fixture against Villarreal. The Bavarian giants will have to travel to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 without their inspirational winger, who has been ruled out for up to a month with
a groin strain.
The two teams are set to lock heads on Wednesday, September 14, in a Group A encounter that also hosts the likes of Manchester City and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003.
Robben also did not take part in Bayern’s last league fixture against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/SC-Freiburg-c40462 which the Bavarian giants won by a comprehensive 7-0 margin. The winger was expected to be fit for the Villarreal clash but the medical staff is still uncertain about the player’s
fitness.
Robben last played for Bayern against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hamburger-SV-c39485 this season, where he scored on the 34th minute mark to set up a 5-0 win. The game took place on Saturday, August 20, at Allianz-Arena.
Bayern manager Jupp Heynckes has expressed disappointment at the injury but believes that his team can overhaul their Spanish opponents on Wednesday. The manager, though, urged the medical staff to work hard on the Dutchman’s fitness as the club can’t afford
to leave the player out for too long. Heynckes added that the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Netherlands-c753 international is an integral part of his side and everyone wants him to be back for the clash against Manchester City.
The club doctor has enthused, "It makes no sense that he could play [against Villarreal] because he hasn't even returned to training yet. There are no reliable predictions of when he may return. I do not know if it will be two, three or four weeks."
Robben joined the Bavarians in 2009 from Real Madrid and has an impressive 29 league goals under his belt from 40 appearances. Having made his debut in 2003, he has 15 international goals for Netherlands until now.
Bayern will take on the Yellow Submarine on Wednesday, September 14, before locking horns with Schalke in their next league encounter on Sunday, September 18.
