Bayern Munich’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Christian-c9045 Nerlinger claims UEFA Champions League qualification will not be easy
Bayern Munich http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sporting-89-c40576 Director, Christian Nerlinger, has claimed that qualification for next year’s UEFA Champions League will not be an easy task. He admitted that the club could face some difficulties considering the quality sides involved.
Bayern Munich finished third in the Bundesliga this year and will play the Champions League qualifiers in August to progress to the group stages of the competition.
Nerlinger admitted that it was a dismal campaign for the Bavarians. He stated that the club could have carried on from the momentum they left last year but it did not happen. He said that he was relieved to have finished third which looked difficult a few
weeks back.
The director revealed that he is hopeful of an improvement next season with Jupp Heynckes taking over as manager and insisted that the club will be back to compete in the League and the UEFA Champions League.
“It was not a satisfactory season. We barely avoided the worst-case scenario. We cannot be satisfied. With the personnel [new coach] Jupp Heynckes has, we will make a big step forward. I am quite confident that we will be able to contend for the Bundesliga
and Champions League next season,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The German admitted that it would not be an easy task to reach the group stages of the Champions League as they could face some very difficult teams in the qualifiers. The Munich giants could face teams like http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429, Udinese or Fenerbahce on their way to
the first stage of Europe’s elite club competition.
He insisted that the players will have to play responsibly to make sure the club plays in the Europe next season.
“The Champions League qualifier is very dangerous. When you consider the atmosphere and the teams that come, it's not an automatic [qualification],” he concluded.
Bayern Munich finished their league campaign in third place with 65 points, behind Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen. The Bavarians were beaten in the knock-out stage of the Champions League by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan and in the semi-finals of the German Cup by
Schalke 04.
